The United States adopts measures in the right direction, but the blockade remains

On January 14, 2025, the U.S. Government announced the decision to: 1) exclude Cuba from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism; 2) make use of the presidential prerogative to prevent action in U.S. courts; and 3) eliminate the list of restricted Cuban entities that designates a group of institutions that have been designated by the U.S. Government as "restricted entities"

In the spirit of the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025, the Cuban State releases persons serving sentences.

As part of the close and fluid relations with the Vatican State, the Government of Cuba has kept in communication with Pope Francis and his representatives and, as in the past, has informed His Holiness about processes of review and release of persons deprived of liberty, a practice that is common in our justice system and that has characterized the humanitarian trajectory of the Revolution
